Old Testament Story 7-(4) Title: "King David"
Bible:
Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me your throne will be established forever.
New Testament:
Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.
Prelude:"讃美歌96番 エサイの根より"
You can hear the Japanese voice recording here.
Dad:
We're going to learn about the story of David as a grown up. David defeated Israel's enemies one after another. David became so popular with the people that they sang, "Saul has defeated a thousand, David has defeated ten thousand!” King Saul became jealous and tried to kill David.
James:
However, Saul's oldest son, Jonathan, protected David from his father.
Mom:
Yes, their friendship was deep. Later on, King Saul and Jonathan were killed in a battle. After Saul's death, David became the king in Hebron over the house of Judah. King David stayed in Hebron for seven years and six months. Meanwhile, King Saul's successor was his son, Ish-bosheth, who died as a king in Jerusalem.
The elders requested that David be appointed king in Jerusalem, so King David ruled Israel and Judah together for 40 years.
Grace:
David had many scandals. King David committed adultery with Bathsheba, the wife of a soldier named Uriah. He attempted to cover up his crime because Bathsheba was pregnant. David sent Uriah to the worst battlefield to let Uriah die in battle. Why would David do such a horrible thing?
Sophia:
A pastor once told me, "People often destroy themselves by honor, money, and sexual problems.
Dad:
Wow! Did he tell that to you, Sophia? You are a small kid.
Sophia:
Yes, when I told him I wanted to be a pastor in the future, he said we should be careful. By the way, I believe King David was loved by God, even though he committed a big sin. When the prophet Nathan pointed out David's sin of adultery, David repented from the bottom of his heart, didn't he?
James:
That is true. But David would have believed that his position as a king was not according to man's plans but according to God's will. David built the temple in Jerusalem, and he carried the Ark of the Covenant inside and acted as a priest.
Mom:
David was on the run from King Saul and even though David had many opportunities to kill Saul, he did not.
Dad:
None of us can boast before God. God planned that Jesus Christ would be born from the lineage of Abraham and David. We have been learning about the main characters in the Old Testament.
Mom:
Advent (the season of waiting and celebration) will start on Dec. 3rd. We celebrate the coming Christmas by lighting a candle each week. Dad, could you please pray?
Dad:
Postlude:"What Child is This?
Thank you for your prayers and support.
1.About 70 people attended the "Health Festa" last Sunday, and participants enjoyed it. Pharmacists provided hands-on activities such as bone density measurement, locomotion test, and consultation on medications and health. Dr. Michio and I had many valuable questions and comments. We thank the association again for this opportunity for him to give a lecture.
2.We have decided to close the Mustard Seed Home Clinic in Kushimoto at the end of November. We will work at "Obihiro First Hospital" in Obihiro, Hokkaido from December. Pastor Megumi will continue to deliver the worship messages on her website, but it will be irregular for a while because Dr. Megumi will be working as a full-time palliative medicine ward. Dr. Michio Ono also takes charge of the Dementia Outpatient at the same hospital, and he plans to expand his lecture to the community. Thank you for your understanding and support. Let us celebrate Christmas and have a great New Year.
